History : The de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth is a British biplane that was widely used as a primary trainer aircraft. Designed by Geoffrey de Havilland and first flown in 1931, it features a simple yet robust design with an open cockpit and tandem seating for the pilot and trainee. The aircraft's distinctive biplane configuration, with a slight sweepback on the upper wing, provided good handling characteristics and stability, essential for training new pilots.
Powered by a variety of engines over its production run, most notably the de Havilland Gipsy Major, the Tiger Moth had a maximum speed of around 175 km/h (109 mph) and was known for its ease of maintenance and reliability. It became the standard training aircraft for the Royal Air Force and many other air forces around the world during the 1930s and World War II.
Beyond its military use, the Tiger Moth also became popular in civilian aviation for recreational flying, aerobatics, and agricultural work. Its charming appearance and historical significance have made it a beloved aircraft among aviation enthusiasts and collectors.
