Unveiling the Land Rover Series II A: A Historical Journey.
The Land Rover Series II A made its debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1958, a decade after Land Rover first ventured into vehicle production. Its introduction followed in the footsteps of its Series I counterpart, which had been unveiled at the same event. Leading the design team was David Bache, the visionary behind subsequent groundbreaking designs like the Range Rover and Rover SD1. Remarkably, Bache and his team crafted the Land Rover Series II in a mere six weeks, demonstrating their prowess. The result was a marvel of simplicity and functional elegance.
The fundamental form and utilitarian functionality of the vehicle remained integral as it evolved, with its distinctive "rounded shoulders" becoming an enduring and iconic hallmark of Land Rover's design ethos. The Series II sported deeper sills that concealed chassis components, offering a more refined appearance. Its uniqueness extended to the cab, where curved glass adorned the rear corners. A regulatory change in 1969 mandated the relocation of the front headlamps from the grille to the wings. Production reached its zenith in 1971, with a staggering annual output of 56,000 units produced in Solihull. Over its 13-year production span, more than half a million Series II models were crafted. Pre-1969 editions are now becoming rare and highly coveted, and Carisma Scale Adventure provides the opportunity to own a piece of this history – a 1968 Series II A, recreated in a 1/24th scale.
