The Land Rover Series II A was unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1958, a decade after Land Rover initiated vehicle production. Its predecessor, the Series I, had made its inaugural appearance at the same event. The design helm was under David Bache, the mind behind other revolutionary designs like the Range Rover and Rover SD1. Bache and his team managed to create the Land Rover Series II's styling within an astonishingly brief six-week period, a feat hailed for its straightforward and genuinely practical design.
The vehicle's fundamental structure and utility remained defining traits throughout its subsequent iterations. Its signature "rounded shoulders" became an enduring and iconic Land Rover hallmark. The Series II incorporated more concealed chassis members through deeper sills, contributing to a less utilitarian aesthetic. Distinctive curved glass adorned the rear corners of the cab. In 1969, legal regulations prompted the relocation of the front headlamps from the grille to the wings. Annual production peaked in 1971 at 56,000 units, all manufactured in Solihull. Overall, the Series II enjoyed a 13-year production span, yielding over half a million units. Pre-1969 models are increasingly rare and highly coveted, yet Carisma Scale Adventure offers you the unique opportunity to possess a 1968 Series II A in 1/24th scale.
