History : The Deperdussin Monocoque was a pioneering French racing aircraft designed and built in the early 1910s by the Société Pour les Appareils Deperdussin. It was notable for being one of the first aircraft to use a monocoque construction, which involved a lightweight, streamlined fuselage made from layers of wood veneer glued together, creating a strong and smooth surface without the need for internal bracing.
Powered by a rotary engine, the Deperdussin Monocoque featured a tractor propeller configuration and a conventional biplane wing layout. The innovative design allowed for reduced drag and improved aerodynamics, making it one of the fastest aircraft of its time. It achieved significant success in air racing, notably winning the 1912 Gordon Bennett Trophy with a top speed of around 105 mph (169 km/h). This aircraft's advanced construction techniques influenced future aircraft designs and marked a significant step forward in aviation technology.
